The Launceston Chamber of Commerce has released a detailed policy position and media statement calling for a wholesale review of the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme (TFES).
In the lead-up to the Federal Election, both major parties have acknowledged the importance of TFES—but the Chamber believes much more is needed to ensure Tasmania’s businesses remain competitive.
Our proposal:
- Goes further than current party commitments
- Includes airfreight for urgent and high-value goods
- Simplifies access for small and medium businesses
- Proposes digital transformation, environmental incentives, and broader eligibility

We urge all federal candidates to support a fairer, faster and future-fit TFES.
