The CGU Business Excellence Awards were launched by the Launceston Chamber of Commerce last night at an event at Boag’s Brewery in front of 80 people.
Launceston Chamber of Commerce, Executive Officer, Maree Tetlow, advised that “the CGU Business Excellence Awards provide a unique opportunity to recognize successful businesses and organisations in Northern Tasmania that excel in their given fields. This year our theme for the awards is all about ‘innovation’. This aligns with the NBN rollout; The Chamber’s efforts along with other major stakeholders to encourage UTAS to invest further in Launceston, with the Centre for Food Innovation, and the Tamar Health concept. And we want to encourage our industries and small business to think about the major trends occurring globally and then consider how they can adapt their business model to meet future needs.
Entering the awards is free and open to any business in the ‘63’ or ‘67’ phone area. It is not with most categories requiring answer to 4 questions with a maximum of 500 words per question. The judges then review all the entries and choose finalists. The finalists receive a more in-depth interview for about 45mins in mid September, and the winners will be announced at a Gala Presentation Dinner at the Hotel Grand Chancellor on Saturday 26 October 2013. The price of tickets is $140 per person for Chamber members - the same price as last year.
Ms Tetlow advised that “the benefits from receiving an award are fantastic. Award winners receive a lot of coverage in the media through features and editorial and previous winners advise that it is an excellent morale boost for the staff.” It is a morale raiser for the staff in the business – especially if the whole organisation is involved in contributing to the process.
