The Launceston Chamber of Commerce welcomed the good news that a long-term deal has been struck between Bell Bay Aluminium and Hydro Tasmania, for 33 megawatts of additional power.
Maree Tetlow, Executive Officer at the Launceston Chamber of Commerce, advised that “we are delighted by this news, as it indicates a positive future for Bell Bay Aluminium. The additional $30 million of capital investment in upgrading the plant will benefit contractors and ensure the refinery is put on a more productive footing into the future, so we can retain the current employment and skills based in the region.”
Ms Tetlow also said “It is great to see that the State Energy businesses of both Hydro Tasmania and TasNetworks are working collaboratively with business to ensure the ongoing competitiveness of our major industrial businesses in the North”
Ms Tetlow continued with “This is great news for Northern Tasmania and will bolster the confidence in the business sector so that more businesses consider investing now for the future.”
