Chamber Director Elections 2021


Clause 25 (2) of the Chamber Constitution (2012) notes:

“At each annual general meeting hereafter an election is to be held to fill up the vacancies in the Board and the members of the Board are to be elected from amongst the members of the Chamber and the authorised representatives of members of the Chamber which are partnerships or companies. A retiring member of the Board is eligible for re-election. The members so elected are to hold office (subject to these rules) until the conclusion of the third annual meeting following their election when they retire but are eligible for re-election.

Key Points: The Process for 2021 Director Elections: 

  • An EDM advertising upcoming board election will be sent to all financial members on the database on 8th September 2021 with a further EDM sent on 20th September reminding members that only financial members can vote in the election for directors.
  • The AGM is to be held on 13th October 2021, after the October Board Meeting on the same date.
  • The election will be conducted as per the timeline schedule noted below.
  • If needed, an electronic ballot will be conducted (the same provider as in 2019 & 2020 will be used).
  • If the event that a ballot is necessary, the Executive Officer is the returning officer.
  • As is the convention and required under the Constitution, the election of office bearers will be held at the November Board Meeting

Timeline for Director Elections

  1. Call for nominations (9am) 8th September (Wednesday)
  2. Close of nominations (3pm) 24th September (Friday)
  3. The decision as to ballot (12pm) 27th September (Monday)
  4. If needed, ballot sent (2pm) 28th September (Tuesday)
  5. Ballot close (4pm) 12th October (Tuesday)
  6. AGM : 13th October (Wednesday)

  • Intending Nominees may view the Chamber Constitution here
  • Director terms are three (3) years from the initial election.
  • Intending nominees should be aware that Board election requires compulsory attendance at Chamber Board Meetings held once per month on 2nd Wednesday of each Calendar month.
  • Intending nominees should be aware that Board election may also require attendance at one or more sub-committee meetings held at various times each month
  • Intending nominees should be aware that Board election requires that Board members’ personal details including residential address and date of birth will be required to be submitted with Annual Returns and may then become public.
  • Intending Nominees must download and complete the Director Nomination form and return to the Chamber office at L1, 63 Cameron Street Launceston 7250, before 3 pm on 24th September 2021. Late submissions cannot be accepted. Submissions not made on this form cannot be accepted. Submissions made on a scanned copy of this form and emailed to [email protected] can be accepted
